Wednesday 12th February 2014

Since D.t was the first lesson today, I was lucky enough to be the first one meaning I was able to use the jigsaw. I removed my materials and wood from the store and took the piece that had to be cut out for the barriers. Today, I only focused to cut out my barriers and fortunately my plan worked. I was done with the barriers of each compartment. Although most of them were not cut out very straight however this happens. It was really hot in the d.t lab causing me too sweat a lot. When i had a glance of my rack so far by combining all the materials to have a quick glimpse if I am on the right track, I have pleasure to say that I am, despite some mistakes which can be rectified. This is what my friend thought of my work and my effort " Amaar often gets distracted and off work sometimes but I usually see him trying his level best to apply his skills and abilities in the create process. He also helps his peers usually and is very reflective and open-minded. However he should try working a bit faster with concentration to his work otherwise he will remain behind hence his rack won't turn out good. So far his rack seems good and attractive and has made me anxious wanting to see the final product. I also looked at his plan, which he tries to follow but more or less does not work out. Keep up the good work Amaar!" - Paul Mugo

This comment that Paul gave me made me proud of my work but also gave me a signal to lift up my pace and has told me where I need to improve. Baring in mind that I only have two lessons left than we break up for holidays I must find extra time for me to work on my rack. The main challenge that I faced today was time-management since time was not on our side. From today, there was no room left for playing around. I didn't quite learn any skills today, but I manged to improve on my observational skills, compiling skills, evaluation skills and wood cutting skills. Today, I felt jubilant of my work and enthusiastic about my work which gave me a sense of relief since I was completely done with the compartments at last which I really took effort for and took a lot of time. As a result, I learn't a lot in making the compartments which was kind of basic but had a lot of things to learn from which made me familiar with the tools available in the d.t lab since I had never used them before as in year seven I made a board game that did not require the use of such tools such as the jigsaw. I will now tend to use the knowledge gained to continue and accomplish making the fruit/vegetable rack.
