At 8:00 in the morning, we
were back to work. As sir opened the door everyone rushed in order to use the
tools. I went to the store and brought out my materials and decided with some
of my peers to take turns in using the jigsaw so everyone can make progress in
their storage device otherwise it would take the whole lesson waiting for
someone to finish cutting his/ her materials. According to my plan, today was
meant to be the second day of cutting my materials and so far I have done more
than what I had planned. If this stays the same, I will be able to finish
making the rack before time giving me more time to make corrections and add
final touches. However, I should not over work myself. So today, I managed to
cut out the barriers of two compartments. It was a challenging task since it
would be very difficult to cut straight on the drawn lines as the jigsaw was
quite very stiff to control. When I was done with this, I tried placing the
barriers and the compartments to give a brief view whether I am on the right
track or not. I got a sense of a relief when I was convinced that I was doing
right. I then looked for another piece of wood which was quite frustrating to
find, since most were taken and some were too large and spoilt. Fortunately, my
friend Ashley was kind enough to share her wood with mine. I then drew my third
compartment on the wood and went over it with a marker. Soon it was time, and
had to pack up. I was really nervous of losing my wood therefore I stored my
wood/materials on top of a shelf in the store and wrote my name on them.
Today was quite a normal day and was
ecstatic that I moved on with my rack. When, I went home I viewed a couple of
fruit/vegetable racks and how mortise and tenon joints have been used on them,
since I have to keep in mind the wood joints that I will use for the rack and
was quite confused on how I will apply and mortise and tenon joint in my rack
since my design didn't quite accurately show that. However, I was pleased with
today's lesson apart from making another compartment again, since the other one
got spoilt. What I can improve on next lesson and in the next lessons is to
stick on one task e.g. If I am making the wood joints, I should work on the
wood joints till I am done with the task instead of make some wood joints and
then start sanding and then go back to making the wood joints again. If I will
improve on this, I would work with more focus on task and will be able to not
forget the ideas I had decided for that task. Otherwise, I am proud of myself
in terms because this project is more or less, walking on my fingertips and is
a fun learning process where as I have been able to develop my wood-cutting
skills, measuring and drawing skills, problem-solving and reflective skills.
